Test utilization and optimization

Abstract:

Under the current health care environment, clinicians are increasingly dependent on test results, often causing the over use of tests and wasting valuable medical resourses. Ideal diagnostic path is targeted to patient care with high quality and cost-effective tests, and ultimately raise health care's quality and efficiency. The crucial point is for test optimal utilization to cooperate between clinicians and technicians and establish rational utilization patterns. Firstly, the laboratory needs to play an active role. Secondly, the clinicians and technicians must discuss together to establish tests. Finally, it is necessary to apply scientific management for the application of diagnostic guidelines. By the computerized provider order entrysystem special settings, they can avoid repeating checks or limit the unnecessary tests.
