Abstract:

Objective

To investigate the expression of FOXA1 in primary and metastatic non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) and its correlation with metastasis.

Methods

Patients with pathologically confirmed NSCLC from The Affiliated Cancer Hospital & Institute of Guangzhou Medical University from September 2011 to December 2016 were randomly collected, including mismatched tissue samples from 40 primary lesions and 40 metastatic lesions, and tissue samples from 40 stage Ⅰ and 40 stage Ⅳ patients. The expression of FOXA1 was detected by immunohistochemistry and the difference in different tissues was compared. The expression of FOXA1 in 12 cases of stage Ⅳ non-small cell lung cancer with both primary and metastatic tissues was analyzed.

Results

FOXA1 was mainly expressed in the nucleus, but not in the cytoplasm and membrane. In 40 pairs of lung cancer tissues and metastatic tissues, the expression level of FOXA1 in metastatic tissues was significantly higher than that in lung cancer tissues (P<0.05). The expression level of FOXA1 in stage Ⅳ lung cancer tissue was significantly higher than that in stage Ⅰ lung cancer tissue (P<0.05). The expression level of FOXA1 in primary and metastatic foci of 12 patients with NSCLC was different. The expression level of FOXA1 in metastatic foci was higher than that in primary foci, but the P value was not statistically significant.

Conclusion

FOXA1 may be related to the metastasis of NSCLC and is expected to become a new therapeutic target for NSCLC.
