Analysis of influenza A and influenza B epidemic in Baiyun district of Guangzhou in 2019

Abstract:

Objective

To analyze influenza A, B incidence and epidemic season, so as to provide a scientific basis for prevention of influenza.

Methods

To collect the outpatient and the inpatient flu detection data of The First Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine in 2019 from January to December. All patients with suspected flu by nasopharyngeal swab sampling were detected A and B influenza virus antigen by colloidal gold strip,meanwhile analyze its positive features, gender, age, laboratory examination data.

Results

19 827 cases of flu samples were detected in 2019 including 17 168 cases of outpatient samples and 2659 cases of inpatient samples. The outpatient and the inpatient positive rate were 19.1% and 3.0% respectively. Influenza mainly concentrated in the aged 0 to 10 and the elder, followed by 11~20 years old, and the flu positive rate of men and women had no statistical difference (P=0.340). The epidemic situation of influenza was the characteristic of three peaks, which were from January to February (influenza A), May to July (influenza A and B mixed popular, influenza B advantage), November and December (influenza A). 2 years of age or older population of flu patients with positive WBC count the mean absolute value within the normal range, lowering 0~2 years old group. Average proportion of neutrophils and monocytes elevated,but lymphocyte percentage average reduced; C-reactive protein, serum amyloid A protein average value was higher than the normal range.

Conclusions

The characteristic of influenza outbreak in Baiyun district of Guangzhou showed seasonal peak in 2019, which influenza A popular in winter, spring and summer. Children, adolescents and the elderly were at high risk for the outbreak of influenza.
