Abstract:

Objective

To investigate the infection and distribution of Helicobacter pylori (Hp) in natural population of Jiangsu Province, and to provide reference for further prevention and treatment of Hp infection.

Methods

Nine thousand and seventy-six individuals from a physical examination population in Nanjing KingMed Clinical Laboratory Co., Ltd during January 2005 and October 2015 were in this study. These individuals were grouped by sex, age and region. Hp IgG antibody was utilized to detect Hp infection in these individuals. Positive rate of Hp and correlation were analyzed within these groups.

Results

the overall Hp positive rate in 19 different regions was 50.71%. Positive rates of Hp in individuals from southern Jiangsu, middle Jiangsu and northern Jiangsu population were 51.27% (3675/7168), 46.75% (108/231) and 48.84% (819/1677) respectively. No significantly different positive rate (χ2=1.87, 3.22, 0.35; P>0.05) was found within the three groups. The positive rates of Hp infection in men and women were 52.01% (2403/4620) and 49.35% (2199/4456). Male infection rate was higher than female (χ2= 6.00, P<0.05). Hp infection rates were 30.23% (13/43), 48.89% (2575/5267), 53.87% (1732/3215), and 51.18% (282/551) in juvenile group, youth group, middle-aged and elderly group, respectively positive rates were higher in middle-aged and elderly group than in juvenile and youth group (χ2=8.04, P<0.05). There was no significant difference between male and female group of different ages (χ2=0.19, 3.08, 1.83, 0.13; P>0.05).

Conclusions

The positive rate of Hp infection is higher in health check-up population in Jiangsu province. There are correlations between Hp infection and age and sex. There is no correlation between Hp infection and area. The middle-aged and the old are individuals with high Hp infection incidence given the different distribution patterns of Hp infection. Early prevention and treatment of Hp infection should be strengthen in order to improve the early prevention of gastric cancer.
