Abstract:

Objective

①To understand and evaluate the satisfaction of the students and graduates of Macao Polytechnic Institute's biomedical laboratory technology program in the professional learning, college support, self-evaluation and college life happiness through a questionnaire survey. ②To compare the satisfaction differences among the students in different grades, the students with different reasons for applying for this major, and the students who have different future plans after graduation.

Methods

All students were selected in the 2017/2018 school year, together with 17 graduates, a total number of 96 participants. To investigate the satisfaction in 4 aspects: namely, professional learning, college support, self-evaluation and happiness in college life through a questionnaire survey. Data analysis was conducted by software IBM-SPSS (20th edition).

Results

The average satisfaction score of all students was 3.85 for professional learning, 3.47 for self-evaluation, 3.55 for the support provided by college, and 3.26 for college life. Comparing students of different grades, of which grade 3 students have the lowest average satisfaction scores in terms of professional learning satisfaction, self-evaluation, college support and happiness in college life. Except for professional learning satisfaction, all other differences were statistically significant (P<0.05). Comparing different reasons why the students chose this program in the satisfaction scores, we found that those students who chose the program with the reason of "Don't care" (or chose randomly) have the lowest satisfaction score in all 4 aspects of the questionnaire content. No statistical significance was found in the relationship between the career plans in the future and the satisfaction scores in all four aspects.

Conclusion

①Our students were satisfied basically with the current professional learning, and the supports provided by the college. The students' self-evaluation was positive, and most students could enjoy their college life. ②Suggestions for school would be try to improve the time schedule design for year two and three students in their professional courses. ③It is recommended to set up some courses to increase students' understanding and recognition of majors, and to guide students to establish solid professional ideas and concepts.
