Abstract:

Objective

To explore how to reduce the review rate of thalassemia genetic test and improve the efficiency of genetic test, as to provide basis for prenatal screening and genetic counseling, and reduce the occurrence of birth defects.

Methods

249 samples of thalassemia genetic tests were selected from May 1, 2021 to August 30, 2021 by reverse dot hybridization. After analyzing the causes of 53 samples requiring review, and formulating corresponding countermeasures according to the causes, the review rates of 321 samples of thalassemia genetic test from November 1, 2021 to March 31, 2022 were calculated, and the review rates of the two time periods were compared, and the implementation effects were analyzed.

Results

The review rate of 249 samples from May 1, 2021 to August 30, 2021 was 21.3%, and the review rate of 321 samples from November 1, 2021 to March 31, 2022 was 6.9%. Compared with the review rate of the two time periods, the difference and effect were statistically significant (P<0.01).

Conclusions

By analyzing the causes of thalassemia gene detection requiring review, and formulating corresponding countermeasures for each cause, we can effectively reduce the review rate of thalassemia gene detection and improve the accuracy of results and the efficiency of report issuance.
