Abstract:

Recently, antimicrobial resistance becomes a serious issue in the clinical practice.Effective management of the resistance depends on rapid identification of pathogens and appropriate use of antimicrobial agents. Specimen processing is an important factor for accurate diagnosis. The clinical microbiology laboratory should strengthen the communication with clinicians, improve the sample submission rate, and increase the pathogen isolation rate. Meanwhile, laboratories must boost their efforts to provide accurate test result. The laboratory should cooperate with the clinic to establish and polish a practical standard process, and assist more accurate infectious disease diagnosis.

Key words: Microbiology, Specimen processing, Quality control
