Abstract:

Objective

The aim of this study was to help diagnose diseases caused by Vitamin D deficiency by analyzing the 25-hydroxyvitamin D [25(OH)D] level in people taking physical examination in Guangzhou.

Methods

The serum 25(OH)D levels were determined by chemiluminescent assayin 9 163 physical examination subjects from January 2016 to January 2019, and 25(OH)D nutritional levels were compared among different genders and age groups.

Results

Mean serum 25(OH)D level of 9 163 subjects was 63.89 nmol/L. Subjects with adequate, inadequate and deficient serum 25(OH)D took percentage of 26.41%, 46.45% and 27.14%, respectively. Male subjects with adequate, inadequate and deficient serum 25(OH)D took percentage of 29.29%, 47.36% and 23.28%, respectively. Female subjects with adequate, inadequate and deficient serum 25(OH)D took percentage of 23.26%, 45.42% and 31.32%, respectively. Serum 25(OH)D deficiency in female subjects was higher than that in male subjects. The difference in this study has statistical significance (P=0.000).The highest 25(OH)D deficiency rate in male and female physical examination groups were in the 20~29 age group(28.75% and 42.71%, respectively). Analysis on vitamin D levels in different months indicated that the highest level of serum 25(OH)D appears in May, while the lowest appears in February.

Conclusion

There are different levels of 25 (OH) D deficiency in people living Guangzhou, and women have a higher rate of deficiency than men.
