Abstract:

Objective

To observe the expression levelS of serum cytokines and immunoglobulins in patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) and evaluate their clinical significance in tumor pathogenesis.

Methods

Compared with rhinitis patients, the levels of serum C-reactive protein (CRP) and immunoglobulin (IgG, IgM, IgA) were detected by immune turbidimetry, and serum IL-2, IL-4, IL-10 and IFN-γ were detected by ELISA.

Results

Compared with the healthy controls, patients showed increased CRP, IL-4, IL-10 and decreased IFN-γ, IL-2 (P<0.05). There was no abnormal change in serum immunoglobulins. while the expression of IL-2 in nasopharyngeal carcinoma patients was significantly lower than that in rhinitis patients. The level of serum cytokines in nasopharyngeal carcinoma patients was closely related to TNM stage. With the increase of TNM stage, serum IL-2 and IFN-γ were significantly decreased, while IL-4, IL-10 and CRP were significantly increased. After clinical chemotherapy, the level of serum IL-2 and IFN-γ were increased.

Conclusion

Serum IL-2, IFN-γ, IL-4 and IL-10 are closely related to the occurrence and development of nasopharyngeal carcinoma, and can be used to evaluate the progress of nasopharyngeal carcinoma.
